Last meeting: A demonstration of Watercolour and collage
by Ailsa Lyn.
Ailsa Lyn gave a very interesting and insightful demonstration last night using watercolours to paint a bluebell woodland scene and then to recreate the scene again using paper collage.
She explained her collage process, where she initially collects a variety of paper such as: old manuscripts, maps and pages from old books, as well as different types of paper. Paint is then applied to the papers to achieve a variety of colours, tones and textures.
To create the collage Ailsa judiciously selects and tears the paper and applies it to cartridge paper using glue. Carefully the scene is wonderfully recreated building up shapes, tone, textures and colour to give a very effective result.
The photos also show a small selection of Ailsa's sketchbook and paintings.
Many thank to Ailsa for a great demonstration.
